IND EX® 2. German Fire and Explosion Safety Congress - Retrospect
Another complete success: At the 2nd German Fire and Explosion Safety Congress the participants even visited the “Umweltwache” (Environmental Guard) and Airport 21. On November 4th and 5th, the IND EX® congress for experts in the fields of fire and explosion safety took place again in the Westfalenhallen exhibition centre in Dortmund. Participants were informed about the latest products, applications, experience and research results in these fields within the scope of different lectures.
In addition to the lectures on "Fire and Explosion Safety", there were also a lot of practical things to experience. As part of an excursion, the 80 congress participants visited the Analytical Task Force (ATF) of the Dortmund Fire Brigade. Distinctively equipped for the analysis of chemical and nuclear substances, the ATF is one of 7 such institutions in Germany, and therefore something special. The ATF's special vehicles were closely examined. Another highlight was the live ignition of dust explosions at the Eichlingshofen site.
After these impressive demonstrations in the courtyard of the environmentalist’s fire station, the journey continued to the Dortmund airport. Here, the complex fire protection concept at the Airport 21 was presented by the airport fire brigade's emergency personnel. The visitors took a close look at the tank farm, and the extraordinary underground refuelling plant with all its safety precautions. Participants were also given a demonstration of a refuelling operation on an Airbus A319. Up close and real. That's the closest anyone can get. Finally, the programme was rounded off with a bus ride on the runway and a visit to the airport fire station.
After this eventful day with lectures and excursions we went back to the bulk goods trade fair in the Westfalenhallen. There, the organizer Easyfairs from Munich, invited the participants to a joint dinner with live music.
